COMMON ADWORDS MISTAKES THAT DRIVES UP COST

AdWords Mistakes

December 31 2016

AdWords uses paid ads to drive customers to your website. It is a quick way to get traffic to a site, but can also be costly if you don’t know what you’re doing.

RETURN ON INVESTMENT

Proper use of AdWords has the ability to make your business successful, irrespective of size. Unlike other modes of advertising, they make it easy to measure your return on investment.

AdWords uses tracking to determine the success of a campaign based on clicks and actions taken on the website. If a person fills out a form or makes a phone call, ideally this information is tracked so that the business can see where leads and sales come from on the Internet.

In addition, AdWords helps you target a specific market. The keywords used for ads are what help you to target a specific customer and appeal to what they need to resolve their problem. If you have been using AdWords for sometime, but are yet to see its benefits, there must be something that you are doing wrong.

Here are some common AdWords mistakes that most people make:

POOR MATCH OF KEYWORDS

AdWords allows you to match keywords in three ways.

  • Broad match – your business will appear in search results, no matter the order of keywords searched.
  • Phrase match – your business only appears when your keywords are used in different order and may have one or two words that are different.
  • Exact match – means exactly that. Your business only appears when the exact order of your keywords is searched.

You need to know which keyword match works for you. If you are looking for more searches, then go for the broad match. But, for a more targeted traffic, try phrase or exact match.

AD GROUP MISTAKES

Mistakes in AdWords can negatively affect your wallet. Here’s two to change:

  • Avoid using too many keywords for one ad group. This will reduce relevance of your advert and reduce effectiveness of your AdWords campaign.
  • Also, ensure that you use a variety of ad groups to target different keywords. This will help increase the chances of your ads being clicked.
